About You
We are interested in hearing from candidates with qualifications such as:
- Rehabilitation Officer for Visual Impairment (ROVI)
- Vision Rehabilitation Worker
- Specialist Vision Rehabilitation Practitioner
We are looking for a Qualified Vision Rehabilitation Professional to join our award winning eye care and vision team at SeeAbility, working with people with Learning disabilities, autism and complex support needs, many of whom have sight loss. You will work as part of our vision rehabilitation team across SeeAbility's residential and support living environments to provide assessment, rehabilitation and habilitation intervention to increase independence, choice and control for the people SeeAbility support. You will also provide training to SeeAbility's wider support teams to empower them to understand and support visual needs for the people we support on a daily basis.
What You’ll Need
- A Level 5 Foundation Degree/Diploma in Higher Education in Vision Rehabilitation Studies or equivalent.
- A full valid driving licence and own vehicle. Occasional long-distance travel is part of the role, with all mileage expenses reimbursed. You will be part of a team and not expected to undertake long-distance travel alone every week.
- Experience of working with people with a learning disability, autism is desirable but not essential.
You will have excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills and an ability to work proactively and autonomously as part of a team that works to ensure that everyone we support at SeeAbility has their eye and vision needs optimally understood and met.
About the Role
You will join a supportive team of Vision Rehabilitation Specialists and eye care professionals, working closely with colleagues across the organisation. This is a highly flexible role, offering more autonomy than is typically found in a statutory team. There is no fixed number of support hours per person, allowing us to tailor our approach to individual needs. In some cases, support may extend over several months rather than being limited to a set timeframe.
As a team, we collaborate to ensure the right person is matched to each individual, taking into account location and specific requirements. Travel usually involves one longer-distance trip approximately every two months, with the rest of your travel being within your region.
A significant part of the role involves staff training, including Sight Loss and Sighted Guide training for the support team across SeeAbility homes, as well as occasional bespoke sessions. This ensures that everyone supported in SeeAbility homes receives the highest quality care.
You will also have access to support from other disciplines, including the PBS team and leading eye care professionals. These colleagues are part of the same organisation, and their guidance is always available for any referrals that may need additional input. Their expert advice is a major benefit, ensuring high-quality support for everyone you work with.
About us
Since we began as the Royal School for the Blind in 1799, SeeAbility has held a unique role. We are the only charity in the UK — and possibly globally — that focuses on the strong link between sight loss and learning disability.
Our research shows that people with a learning disability are ten times more likely to experience sight loss. This makes eye care a priority for us.
Ready to Apply?
Primarily a full-time role for a fully qualified candidate, but we can consider part-time applicants and those who are close to finish their qualification.
If you’re looking for a role where you don’t just work — you thrive, hit that apply button and let’s make a difference together.
