Who will you be supporting?

Hi, my name is Darren and I'm shortly going to be living in my own home in Birchington, Kent and will be supported by SeeAbility.

Experience supporting people like me, a man with autism and some complex health needs, would be a strong advantage.  I am looking for calm, assertive individuals with a great sense of humour to join my team. You need to support me to lead the life I want and to encourage me to be gradually more and more skilled and confident.

I need a quiet and happy environment in my home. However, I really enjoy walking, listening to music, eating out and people watching so I’d love it if you liked these things too.

I’d love for people to join my team who have the same interests as me.  You will need to be physically fit, 100% reliable and able to provide me with personal care support. I have autism and sometimes my behaviour can be challenging, but that shouldn’t stop me doing the things I love and leading an active life. I will need your encouragement to learn life skills and gain independence but that’s something everyone needs at times. You will need to be patient, confident and can see the value in small gains. You will follow coaching from my behaviour support person and are willing to help when needed. If this is you, we will get along just fine!

The role

You will assist the service manager to ensure that Darren receives high quality support.

You will be delegated management tasks and given off-rota time to manage this. Some of the delegated tasks will include:

  • rota management
  • 121s
  • training new staff
  • leading the team to complete support plans,
  • risk assessments
  • activities to enable Darren to achieve outcomes.

You will be expected to manage the team in the absence of the service manager.

Working in partnership with Darren, his family and our specialist support teams you’ll champion skilful interactions, person-centred planning and partnership working to plan. You will implement professionally designed support plans that genuinely improve the quality of everyday life.

Acting as a role model and mentor to the team you’ll facilitate the use of collaborative working. You will use sound judgment, and creative solutions to enable both them and Darren to achieve individual goals and develop. You will manage staff performance, training and appraisals ensuring the team are equipped and motivated to deliver the best support possible.
